A northern New Jersey social studies and special education instructor, Fathia Balgahoom has taught various subjects in a public secondary school setting, incorporating culturally relevant materials into lessons. Emphasizing a collaborative approach to learning, Fathia Balgahoom strove to ensure a safe and accommodating environment for students with special needs. She designed the classroom practicum alongside a co-teacher and coordinated with the Child Study Team to evaluate pupil progress.
Ms. Balgahoom volunteered with the Bridgemen Believe Mentor Program and engaged one-on-one with students each week to meet academic objectives and fulfill emotional and social needs. She also served as a teacher's assistant position at the AppleTree Preschool, designing a stimulating, welcoming, and safe activity space.
While attending Montclair State University, Ms. Balgahoom served as an admissions ambassador, sending out acceptance packets and answering prospective students’ questions. Additionally, Ms. Balgahoom held several roles with the student group Justice for Education such as president, and helped ensure an enriching experience for all on campus.
